Hobo With A Shotgun (8/10)

This is a nightmare that's gone horribly right! Here is a movie that's no hold barred with the mayhem it unleashes. Gory and bloody in ways you'll never see before. Here's the best part though, it's a grind house movie! Those not familiar with the genre, they are highly violent and exploitative in the most over the top ways you can think of. I've said in the past I don't care for 90% of torture/horror movies because the violence is just dumb. "A History of Violence" raises the question of what violence does to the soul, but "Hobo With A Shotgun" is pure fun. It's bloody nature is like jokes in a comedy, it's all for joy. Director Jason Eisener is like a kid in a candy store, he's going to have a blast without a care for what others think. Good for him!

We open on our nameless hobo (Rutger Hauer how I've missed your awesomeness) ridding into "Scum City" as it's been deemed on a train. The music makes it feel like a nameless cowboy riding into town on a horse (now a train) ready to make a change. After several run ins with crime boss Drake (Brian Downey) and his two sons (the dynamite duo of Gregory Smith and Nate Bateman) our Hobo is sick and tired as Travis Bickle was. The hobo arms himself with a shotgun and takes to the streets in a  city that makes Gotham look like paradise. I want to take a second to praise the use of technicolor that makes the vibrate colors look like "The Warriors", a high compliment from me. This film is an adrenaline rush that will keep you cheering throughout. The hooker with the heart of gold gimmick is as boring as ever, but it's only a small portion of a great film. Watch out for this one.

8/10
Recommendation: Here is a fun film to get you engaged with but those with a weak stomach for blood stay away ( I loved it).
